Who We Are

The Federal Way Chorale has approximately 65-70 volunteer voices with many years of prior chorale experience. The talented voices of the Chorale give of their time for weekly group practices, sectional practices and private practice at home. Small group voice lessons by section have been given by Dr. Sandra Glover, professor of Music at Highline Community College. Rehearsal tapes (MP3, CD and "Cloud") aid daily study and help achieve concert perfection. The Chorale's Artistic Director, Mr. Laird Thornton, has a bachelor & master degrees in musical performance and is the Choral director for Grace Lutheran Church and Thomas Jefferson High School. The chorale's Assistant Director, Mr. Brian Soushek, has worked extensively with musical theater programs at Thomas Jefferson High School and the Knutzen Theater and is the Musical Director of United Methodist Church. Performances will include local professional orchestra musicians.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Federal Way Chorale is to provide musical and performance excellence; with passion and enthusiasm we strive to provide the culturally diverse community of the Puget Sound region an inspirational musical experience. Through diversity of repertoire we continue to educate our audience through our music and be an integral and active member in the cultural life of our community at large.

Featured Programs

The Chorale will present concerts in Federal Way on May 19th and May 21st showcasing the choral writings of Eric Whitacre and music from the movies. Whitacre is currently the preeminent choral composer in the United States. His works, entailing stirring melodies and rich harmonies, laced with emotion are performed by choirs from the high school to the professional level all across the world. We will also be performing pieces from well-loved movies. Our concert pieces range from the extremely popular and well-known Whitacre piece, Seal Lullaby, to the Casablanca classic As Time Goes By. Music from the Disney musical, Frozen, round out the performance and ensure that even the kids will be entertained. This concert has something for everyone and is not to be missed!
The Chorale also performs at local events such as the Federal Way Tree Lighting, Korean-American Day, the Federal Way Memorial Celebration and such venues as local Country Club Christmas brunches and even flash mob performances at South Center Mall.

Your generous, tax-deductible donations all us to continue to perform throughout the region and help pay for our director costs, instrumentalists and accompanists, venues and supplies.

We are grateful for your support!
